first leg – leaving Norway.

Leaving Norway via Kristiansand Airport on an ordinary Sunday morning – May 20th to be exact. The sun is just up but I've been up all night getting to the airport, and I have a 15 hours journey ahead of me. First there's the short (1½ hour) trip down to Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

leaving Europe.

Leaving Europe via Skiphol, Amsterdam. Airports and airfares are not all that exciting, but they are necessary parts of any longer journey today.

KLM's old MD80 machine was alright, but one can not call its economy class comfortable.

entering United States airspace.

After 8 hours in the air and mostly over sea, I was looking forward to planting my feet on solid ground again. United States is down there somewhere, and it looks solid.

It takes time to get through all check-points on an American airport, and Newark International Airport in New Jersey was no exception. They say it's necessary and that may well be, but it sure is boring.

Anyway, I was in no hurry – just happy to have the long airfare behind me, so queues and delays didn't bother me too much at this point. Ron was waiting when I got through it all, and it was a sunny day.
