what does the roadsign say?

Mechanic Falls, Maine, where we made a brief stop for something to eat and drink. Take a good look at the roadsign to see where we're heading … by chance, not by plan.

The plaque said we were in the Androscoggin County, which gave us a reference on our journey westwards through Maine. I think we drove past all these counties with their small townships a bit too quickly, but with limited time to cover such a long stretch of road across New England that couldn't be helped this time around.

Norway, Maine, USA.

Oh, well, here we were in Oxford County, Maine – walking down the main street of Norway after sundown.

The town-name was quite a surprise. Not that I didn't know there are lots of places in the US that are given names found in the old world – that's the rule rather than the exception, but a town called Norway was not what I'd expected and I hadn't noticed the name on any maps.
Too small a town to be noticed, I guess, but at least they have a postoffice.

No one is exempt from talking nonsense; the only misfortune is to do it solemnly.

Some somewhat wise words on display above, but it was getting pretty dark and this small town called Norway with its strange mix of buildings, looked like it might deserve a visit in full daylight.

So, we solemnly decided to return to Norway the next day – no nonsense, and aimed for the nearest campground to spend the night.
