Pattersonville, Johnstown, NY.

We spent the night parked at a service area, and woke up to this (for me) familiar sight of a dairy farm – on the other side of the interstate highway.
Zoom lenses comes handy at times.

The police wondered about the man walking alongside the highway – thought my car had broken down or something, but they were “cool” with it as long as I didn't try to cross.

The many “Historic New York” plaques found on rest areas tell us a little bit about the past. Besides that, they do point out what area we're in right now.

This one tells us we're in the Johnstown, NY area, and another sign on a building said Pattersonville so we have a pretty good idea of where we are at the moment. Good to know.

passing Utica.

Another rest area and another “Historic New York” plaque. It says we're in the Utica area, so we're obviously going in the right direction – west.

Clearly my pictures show that I didn't pay all that much attention to the towns and cities in the area. I'm more interested in what can be seen of the country-side.

Cows and fields and buildings show some active farming in the Utica area. Some buildings in disrepair also indicated that farming is declining – here as in the rest of the world. Food crisis anyone?
