Some farming near Lake Ontario in the Niagara area. The soil seems to be sandy with low percentage of organic material, so it looks dry everywhere. They say it's pretty fertile though.

Following Route 18 westwards. The roadsign says “Seaway Trail”, but there isn't much sea to see along the way as they have hidden it well behind a line of private properties.
Lake Ontario.

I wanted to see Lake Ontario and walk on its edge, and I did.
I think (or actually know) the town at the other side of the lake, is Toronto, in Canada – only the taller buildings are visible in the center of the picture across the curved water-surface.

Fertile soil or not, it does look rather dry everywhere in the area. They do have access to plenty of water though.
