the falls.

Here we are at Niagara Falls – Goats Island to be precise. Plenty of water flowing from Lake Erie towards Lake Ontario, creating a mist above the Horseshoe Falls at least as high as the falls themselves.

Horseshoe Falls.

The falls look quite impressive even from the American side. Of course we would have gotten a better view from the Canadian side – seeing the falls from up front, but it is just whitewater so it's ok from here.

Another factor was that we needed passports in order to cross the border, and although I had mine handy Ron didn't have one. Thus, this was as close as I got to Canada this time around.

Watched the boats negotiate the river below for a while, and caught some of the locals on camera. It was a very warm, sunny day, so we took it slow.

Nice view overlooking the American Falls and the spectator area on Luna Island. Picture taken from Goats Island.

Always some who want to get closer to the action, and those who wanted to could exercize in the mist on the walkways below the falls looking up at the Bridal Veil Falls. We got a pretty good view from the edge above, and we preferred to stay dry.

One thing that crossed my mind when we were here was that I'm not particularly fond of the sound/noise created by waterfalls. Many years ago I lived in a valley where that waterfall-noise was constant, and I hated it. So Niagara Falls is fine for short visits, but I would go nuts if I had to live near here.

The obligatory “I've been here” photo of Ron on Luna Island. Confirmed.

Covering the falls in their entirety in one picture is impossible from the American side, but I captured both ends of the falls from the east, and there's enough whitewater in the picture to prove that I've seen it all.

A more quiet scene from the river above the Bridal Veil Falls, with nearly a hundred seagulls standing side by side on tree trunks stuck above small falls in the stream. I think this picture is a suitable ending for our visit to Niagara Falls.
