leaving Pearl River, NYS, USA.

All packed and ready to go, after a last round in the garden.

It does take quite a while to get from Pearl River to the airport, and travellers are supposed to check in early.

checking in at the airport.

Everything goes slow on American airports because of all the security checks. No problem, really, just boring, and it was very warm on Newark International Airport this sunday.

I later discovered that the security check was not well performed, as it didn't prevent passengers from intentionally or accidentally bringing “forbidden items” onto the plain. Not that it mattered on our flight, but what's the use of wasting time and resources on such substandard security checks?

preparing to leave Newark, NJ in the afternoon.

Looked like they had some problems with the luggage-loading gear in the heat. The entertainment electronics on our plain also wouldn't work because of the heat that day, causing a delay. The electronics started working again an hour or so into the flight, once it had cooled down at around 12000 meters height.

crossing the Atlantic ocean by night.

What is there to do on an 8 hours journey at night across the Atlantic ocean? Not much, really, so I slept for a few hours.

a few hours stop-over at Skiphol, Amsterdam.

Four hours to kill on Skiphol – not much to do there either.

The performance-level for security checks seemed to be higher than in the US, and a whole lot quicker.

the last leg of this journey.

After a short delay caused by weather-conditions, we could enter a small plain for the one and a half hour trip from Skiphol to Norway.

back on Norwegian soil.

Finally I can leave the plain at Kjevik Airport in Southern Norway, and am home again after eight weeks. Feels really, really, good.

Has taken me a long time to piece this travel journal together, but it has been almost as much fun doing so as making the journey, so it has been time well spent.
