latest updates on www.gunlaug.no…
july 2008:
Moving slowly but steadily along on the farm-related section on site. Finally so many articles have been launched that the time had come to only mark “planned but not ready” links in the menu. Only a few of those left on the list, and they're not all that far from launch either.
Have received a few mails from visitors to our virtual farm, which of course is great fun. Since I have written my farm-related articles mostly for non-farmers, it is nice to know that there are visitors who like them well enough to take time to comment.
having a break…
I'm having a summer-break from web design, and also don't contribute on any of the many discussion lists and forums related to web design I normally spend some time on. In fact I'm not surfing the web much at all these days and just take a quick look at my mail box now and then in case there's something I'd hate to miss.
The real world is more attractive than the virtual one when the sun is shining, and I even turn off my computers completely for whole days on end. Feels good, so right now I can't say for sure when I'll become more active in the virtual world again. Sometimes in the autumn sounds about right, but who knows.
summer on the farm…
The grass is green and there's plenty of it, and all animals are doing ok. One can hardly ask for more.
Those who know anything about farming are aware of that this is the busy season, but we're not all that busy on this farm, so we can enjoy life and everything nature has to offer – which is really a lot this far (5 minutes drive) from the nearest town.
9 cows, 2 heifers and
8 calves of various age, are reminding us that we have jobs to do on this dairy farm. They all contribute to the
feel-good factor, so being around them is more of a continuous blessing than a series of routines and
hard work.
At the moment our cows are producing so much milk that our milk-cooling tank gets completely over-filled during weekends. The milk-truck picks up milk 3 times a week, which means our cooling tank has to hold 3 days production at the end of the weekend, which it can't right now.
Our calves can also only drink so much milk in a day, and we can only store so much milk for them. It's really a luxury-problem, and we manage.
sincerely
