online and doing fine…
For the record: I am still on vacation in Florida, USA, and will be for another month or so. Vacation means “relaxing”, so that's exactly what I do most of the time.
Crossed safely into the new year a few days ago, and am now in position
to look at more important matters than public celebrations and
jubilations.
Let's see now…
very personal checklist:
- laptop on line and running fine √
- coffee cup within reach √
- house warm and cozy √
- some background music √
Now, what more could an old web carpenter possibly want? Well, apart from that I'm missing my wife a lot, not much.
The two weeks I have spent at my address in Hernando County are hardly enough to get the complete picture. Have been here long enough to see that I made a reasonably good decision by choosing this place over all the many others I looked at in the area though.
This is a quiet and friendly neighborhood, where people
are looking out for each other and otherwise mind their own business.
As this is to be my “home away from home”
whenever I'm on this side of the Atlantic ocean, I'm taking my time to
familiarize myself both with the house and the neighborhood. May take
a while to get to know people in the neighborhood and check out the entire
area, but no question about it: I like it here.
evaluating software…
Testing out various software for my laptop - some of what I have is rather old and in part outdated. New Virus/Malware protection and some HTML editors are on the table at the moment. That's how I like to spend my evenings - challenging software and myself.
The choice of a new HTML editor is especially critical, as I want one that behaves in accordance with my preferences and that doesn't try to “improve” on my code. Strange that so many programmers think they know better than me how to code and edit my web documents…
While testing and tuning HTML editors, I released some styles that have been “laying around” in this site's stylesheets for 18 months or so. In doing so some insignificant changes shows up in WebKit and Mozilla browsers. Opera has used these styles all along, and Internet Explorer has so far not supported them - maybe IE9 will.
I honestly haven't paid much attention to development across browser-land for the last year or so. A brief look through “what's new” for various browsers doesn't really reveal all that much “new”, but improved support for the “old” stuff across the board is somewhat encouraging.
That's it for now. Until the next report: have a nice one.
sincerely
