…and other disturbances…

reporting back before winter…

After a long vacation in the US, mainly down south but including visits to St. Louis and Nashville, I am now back at the farm and preparing for whatever the Norwegian winter may throw at us. Maybe I don't have to say it but I will anyway: I don't like Norwegian winters anymore.

In addition to the snow that will have to be moved out of the way no matter what whenever it arrives in the coming months, there's also the endless hours of winter sport on national TV one has to endure when one tries to stay warm. Pure torture if you ask me, but (of course) those who like that stuff never do.

I managed to stay in a warmer climate the entire time last winter, but no such luck this winter – can't abandon the farm entirely you know. Hope this Norwegian winter won't be anywhere near as bad as the last one, at least not at and around our place.

now what…

I could spend the winter months writing more or less intelligent notes and comments on facebook and elsewhere, but for the moment at least I can't come up with a single good reason to engage beyond the slightly more than a couple of comments/notes anywhere a month I am at now. Maybe I'm not “social” enough, or maybe I'm just too tired of the constant flood of smalltalk coming from everywhere to feel like joining in.

Of course; being back in Norway means it is technically very hard to connect to the rest of the world at all. Staying quiet on the sideline most of the time sounds good to me, although I do strongly resent the enforced shut-out I experience in my own country.

The good news today is that the project of spreading fiber-optic cable in the area has actually started – on the ground. We at the far end will have to wait at least another 6 months for a working connection, but maybe one day…

Till some other time.
